Yorktown: The 1st allied siege line

If you're visiting Yorktown battlefield, coming from York County or Hampton or Newport News (rather than coming south from Richmond) - there are a couple of ways to get to the Yorktown battlefield.

I always drive down George Washington Highway (Highway 17), and turn off on __________. If you continue on you'll come to another exit that leads straight to the Visitor's Center.

I take the _________ exit. You drive along, pass a school, pass Surrender Road, and keep on going. Soon, on your right, you will see a placard standing alone in a field (the place I was talking about in the video in the first entry of this blog) which identifies the spot as the location of the First Allied Siege Line. All the earthworks here, and the cannon, are reconstructions or replicas.

On the right, there are two cannon that are representative of the French Battery.

I'll talk about these more in a future entry.
