Reenactment of Battle of the Hook

On Friday, October 17, 2008, the weather was lovely. Nice and warm, and no wind.

I was therefore making plans to attend the reenactment of the Battle of the Hook, which was to take place on Octboer 18 and 19 at Warner Hall Plantation in Gloucester. 1,500 reenactors would take part.

Wa-ell, come October 18 and the temperature had dropped precipitously and the wind had picked up preciptiously and it was just too unpleasant of a day to spend walking around outside watching people reenact a battle.

And today, Sunday October 19, is just as bad.

So, I'm sorry, I'm staying indoors and watching football.

It's a pity though... because this is doubtless the kind of weather that the soldiers in the Revolutionary war fought through at this time of year, and of course the Civil War soldiers... fighting and dying and now, over 150 years later, we Americans can sit in comfort of a Sunday and watch football...
